Kroger Meal Ideas

Gotten all the deals this week at Kroger but still not sure what to fix for dinner?  Try these simple recipes that match up with this week's sale items and things you probably already have in the fridge or pantry from recent sales.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups chicken broth (hopefully you stocked up on this last week!)
ground black pepper
1 medium carrot sliced ($.59lb)
1 stalk celery, sliced ($.89)
1/2 cup uncooked extra wide egg noodles (on sale last week)
1 cup shredded cooked chicken ($1.99 lb)

Directions:

Heat broth, pepper, carrot and celery in 2-qt saucepan over medium-high heat to a boil.  Stir in noodles and chicken.  Reduce heat to medium.  Cook for 10 minutes or until noodles are tender.  (Makes 4 servings.)

Pork BBQ on Buns (crock pot recipe)

Ingredients:

Porkloin ($1.99lb - can also have butcher slice into chops for other recipes)
salt & pepper to taste
1/3 - 1/2 cup water
barbeque sauce (should have some on hand from previous sales)
Hamburger or Sandwich buns ($1)
slaw (optional)

Directions:

Place pork in slow cooker.  Pour water in bottom of slower cooker and sprinkle pork with salt and pepper.  Cook all day on low heat until meat is cooked through and tender.  Remove from crock pot and shred or chop.  Return meat to crock pot and mix with as much bbq sauce as you like (I probably use 1/2 - 3/4 cup).  Leave in crock pot until heated through.  Serve on buns with slaw if desired.

Chicken with 20 Cloves of Garlic
(taken from Food and Family Magazine)

Ingredients:

4 small boneless skinless chicken breast halves ($1.99 lb)
20 cloves (or however many you have), peeled
3/4 cup chicken broth (on sale last week)
1/4 cup cesear salad dressing
1/4 cup grated parmesean cheese

Directions:

Heat large nonstick skillet on medium-high heat.  Add chicken and garlic; cook 4 minutes, turning chicken after 2 minutes.  Stir in broth and dressing & cover with lid.  Cook chicken 4 minutes on each side or until done.  Sprinkle with parmesean cheese.  Remove from heat & let stand, covered, for 1 minute.
