Thrifty Thursday 11/10

We didn't need much this week thanks to a few recent "stock-up" trips, so I went to a some stores that I don't always have time to go to...including the Goodwill store and Ollie's Bargain Outlet.  I know it's not grocery related, but I LOVE to go to the Goodwill to look for books for my kids.  At $0.35 a piece, it's an inexpensive way to treat them!  I found some bargains today...including books by Tommie de Paola and Eric Carle, plus a hardcover Fancy Nancy book!  Ollie's didn't have much except for Betty Crocker fruit snacks for $0.99 a box.  We were out and my husband LOVES fruit snacks, so I bought a few boxes.

My best deal of the day was at Walgreens where I got 2 cans of Clabber Girl baking powder for FREE after coupons!  (Well, I paid $0.03 for tax, but that's about as close to free as you'll get!)  :)

I also went to Kroger for one set of Mega Sale items (Kleenex, Nestle water bottles, Doritos -a sick present for my hubby-, and a carton of half & half) and some veggies, milk and eggs.

And, unfortunately, I was FORCED to go to Walmart for a few non-grocery related items, so while I was there, I picked up a bottle of honey.  :)

Here are my totals for the day...

Total value of all purchases (22 items from 4 stores - not including Goodwill) : $56.53
Total amount spent oop after sales and coupons :  $34.63
Total amount saved : $21.90 or 39%

Trips to Walgreens & Target = More FREEBIES!

The girls and I had to run some Father's Day errands this morning, so we made stops in Walgreens and Target while we were out!

Walgreens had lots of great deals this week.  (See my favorites here.)  We were down to 2 diapers in the house, so my goal was to grab all of the freebies and some diapers!

I had a REALLY great trip to Target today!  They are usually out of everything I want when I go there - especially on a Friday!  I guess today was my lucky day!  I was hoping they sold American Greetings brand cards so I could use the $2/2 coupon I talked about here, but no such luck.

Here's my picture... (the only thing not in the picture are two greeting cards)

Thrifty Tuesday - quick trip for coffee!

Since today is the LAST day of May (can you believe it?!), I knew I had several good coupons expiring today.  I wanted to make a quick trip to Walgreens to get the Gillette razor and Dunkin Donuts Coffee before it was too late!  (I cannot let a good deal on coffee pass me by right now!)

Here's what I ended up with:

Total value: $47.16
Total spent: $13.36
Total saved: $33.80 (or 72%)!

I didn't have any Register Rewards to start with, and didn't leave with any new ones, so I wasn't too upset with the amount of money I spent.

Thrifty Thursdays!

Today was quite a busy day.  It started off with my daughter's preschool graduation.  I can't believe she is already finished with preschool and going to be starting Kindergarten in just a few short months!  Time sure does fly!

Then, after a quick trip to the hair salon, I started my shopping for the day.  I made it to Kroger, Walgreens, and Walmart today.  (I only went to Walmart to pick up some pull-ups & new socks for my daughter, but did buy a watermelon while I was there - I couldn't resist!)

Kroger wasn't too thrilling, but I did pick up 4 bottles of Wishbone salad dressing for $.25 each, 4 bottles of Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce for $.50 each, and Oscar Meyer hotdogs for $.75 each.

Total value of 35 items: $93.67
Total amount spent oop: $43.33
Total amount saved: $50.34 (or 54%)

Next, I went to Walgreens where, believe it or not, they had EVERYTHING on my list still in stock!!  Including all the items I had rainchecks for from last week.

I was excited to see that my store had the Gillette gift packs as part of the Gillette Fusion register reward deal!  It includes a razor, extra blade, battery, shave gel, and face cream all for the same price as the regular one count razor!  I was also happy about the Viva paper towels because they are my FAVORITE, but I usually don't splurge on them.

That said, I spent way more than I usually do at Walgreens this week.  But, I just could not pass up the contact solution and paper towels.  I started with $5 RR from 2 weeks ago and I did 6 transactions to bring my out of pocket total down.

Total Value of 21 items: $85.24
Total amount spent out of pocket: $15.33
Total amount saved: $69.91 (82%)!

I also went in the Dollar Tree store today to see if they had any bread in and they did!

Not bad for $4!

How did you do on your shopping trip this week?  I'd love to hear!

Thrifty Thursdays!

This week, I made it to Walgreens, CVS, and Kroger!  I got several free things this week, which is always exciting!

I went to Walgreens mostly because they had Purex laundry detergent on sale for $.99 after coupons.  We recently got a new washer & dryer and while I have probably 15 bottles of laundry detergent in my stockpile, none of it was the kind I needed for the new washer!!!  So...I've been looking for laundry detergent deals lately!  While I was there, I picked up some better than free toothpaste, some Easter M&M's and a few other small Easter basket items for my girls.  (Sorry, no picture this week.  I put everything away before I realized I hadn't taken a picture of it yet!)

Total value of 10 items = $39.07
Total spent out of pocket after sales, coupons, and Register Rewards = $6.62
I did not leave the store with any Register Rewards left over today.  I bought the toothpaste first, which generated the Register Rewards, and then used them to buy the laundry detergent and the candy.

Next was CVS.  I went in to pick up all the free items from the ad this week.  They were out the GUM flossers and Crest Rinse, so I got rainchecks for those.  Here are the things I did buy...

Total value of 9 items = $31.39
Total spent out of pockets after sales, coupons, and Extra Care Bucks (I used $12.58 in ECBs) = $1.64
Total Extra Care Bucks received = $13.97
I'm always happy when I get back more ECBs than I used!  Yay!

Last, I made my weekly trip to Kroger.  I really didn't have many coupon deals planned except for a few of Mega Sale items & some free toothbrushes (pictured below).  The rest was mostly produce and dairy items.

I only spent $3.96 on everything pictured above!  Not too bad since they are all definitely things I will use.  (Well, except for the toothbrushes - I'll be giving lots of those away!)

Total value of 37 items = $103.09
Total spent out of pocket after sales and coupons = $45.58
Total saved = $57.51 (or 57%!)

Thrifty Thursdays!

Yesterday I made shopping trips to CVS, Walgreens, Food Lion, AND Kroger!  This was a long day for me as I haven't shopped that many stores in one day in a while!!

I started with CVS where I just wanted to pick up some free toothbrushes and cheap shave gel, but because I got $1 ECB back from using my green bag tag that I wasn't expecting, I actually made money on this!

Total Value = $11.27
Total amount spent out of pocket = $0.02
I used $7 ECB toward this purchase but got back $7.50!

Next, I went in to Walgreens for some free items and cheap apple juice.  (We were down to 1 jug and my kids would not be happy if we ran out!)  :)

Total value of 14 items: $34.70
Total spent out of pocket after sales, coupons, and Register Rewards = $5.29
I made 4 transactions in this visit.

Next, I went in to Food Lion just to get cheap potatoes, ground beef, FREE butter, and cheap barbeque sauce.  I also ended up picking up some deli turkey b/c I didn't realize it was on sale!

Total value of 14 items = $36.96
Total spent after sales & coupons = $16.84
Total savings = $20.12 or 54%

Last, but not least, I made my weekly trip to Kroger.  There was nothing terribly exciting to talk about this week.  My favorite coffee was on sale, which was nice, and I picked up some cheap cinnamon rolls as a treat for the kids to have this weekend.  Oh, and the Nabisco Snak Saks were on sale for $1 again!  I bought 5 bags to add to the ones I still have left over from the last sale so we will be stocked for the spring months.  They are only on sale through Saturday, so if you want to get any, hurry over there!

Total value of 35 items = $112.04
Total spent after sales & coupons = $66.34
Total savings = $45.70 or 41%

Whew!  just typing all of that makes me remember how tired I was when I got home!!  How did you all do this week?  I'd love to hear!

Thrifty Thursdays!

This week's shopping trips were to Kroger and Walgreens!

Kroger has another mega sale going on this week.  There were a few great prices on things like FREE pasta, FREE Motrin, and really cheap yogurt!  I stocked up on yogurt for the kids (it can be frozen!) and also found some batteries on clearance which ended up being super cheap after coupons I had!

Total value of 49 items: $125.76
Total amount spent out of pocket after sales and coupons: $42.22
Total amount saved: $83.54 or 67%

I have to tell you about one thing that happened while I was at the store.....I bought 4 bottles of Motrin PM (20ct) at $2.99 each and had a manufacturer's coupon for $6 off any 2 bottles.  When the cashier scanned the coupon, it beeped because the total amount of the coupon was $.02 more than the actual sale price of the Motrin.  (This happens to me a lot at Kroger.)  I wasn't worried about it until the cashier began to tell me that I couldn't use the coupon because the picture of the bottle of Motrin on the coupon showed a 40 ct. bottle instead of a 20 ct. bottle!  Well, of course, I could feel my blood pressure begin to rise at this point.  I knew that it made no difference what picture was on the coupon, but that it was the actual wording on the coupon that mattered.  This particular coupon only stated that it excluded trial sizes.  I knew it was a perfectly valid coupon.  I tried to nicely explain to the cashier that she was going to have to override it because the amount of the coupon was more than the amount of the item, but she still wouldn't do it.  She went and asked one manager who didn't even look at the product or the coupon and told her that she couldn't take the coupon.  I stood my ground however (this was $12 we were talking about!) and told her nicely again why it was beeping and that I knew the coupon was perfectly valid.  She finally called over another store manager who looked at the coupon and told her it was fine and to put it through.  The moral of this story it....you have to choose your battles.  If that had been a 30 cent coupon and there was a line behind me, I most likely would have said, it's fine and just cut my losses.  However, in this case, I stood to loose $12 and I decided to stand up for what I knew was right.  I tried to stay calm and be polite while stating my case and, in the end, it paid off!  Don't be afraid to ask for a manager when your cashier doesn't want to take a coupon that you know is valid!!

Okay...off my soapbox and onto my next store...Walgreens.  The only thing I got at Walgreens was 4 Right Guard deodorants.  These were on a buy one get one free sale at $3.99 and I had two buy one get one free coupons which took off $3.99 each (the original price of the deodorant).  This made all 4 bottles FREE leaving me to just pay tax!  Yay!!

Did you get any great deals this week?  I'd love to hear about them!

Thrifty Thursdays!

I know, I know...it's Friday, not Thursday....AGAIN!  :)  By the time I get home from shopping on Thursday, fix dinner, and get kids in the bed, I just can't seem to make it to the computer.  (The only reason I'm writing this now is because my wonderful mother is watching my kids while they nap!  Gotta love Grammy!!!)

Anyway, yesterday was a pretty good shopping trip for me!  I went to Walmart, Walgreens, and Kroger.

Now, I know what you're thinking.....WALMART?!  But, I had to go there to get a specific item, so while I was there I picked up a few cheap and/or free things!!  I got FREE dental floss and tomoto paste and boxes of Gain fabric softener sheets for $0.12 each!  Except for the fact that they were out of the cat food and Dial lotion that I wanted, I was pretty happy with that trip!

Total value of 10 items = $20.43
Total spent after coupons = $0.43!  (98% savings!)

Now, on to Walgreens.  I wasn't exactly sure how my trip was going to go there.  I never know what they are still going to have in stock by the time I get there on Thursdays, so I usually write out my "dream transactions" and then have to readjust them once I'm in the store!  My main goal was to get some inexpensive coffee and peanut butter, and I managed to do just that!  I used overage on the Pedia Care along with 2 $1 coupons and a $1 RR to go towards the coffee (protein bars were free after coupons and Easter bag was a filler item - $0.27) and then used the $1 RR I got back from the coffee to go towards the peanut butter!

Total value = $28.83
Total spent oop after sales and coupons = $2.56
Total savings = $26.27 (91%!)

Last, but not least, I went to Kroger.  Now, I didn't have much of a trip planned for Kroger.  In fact, most of the items on my list did not involve coupons at all.  However, as I was loading digital coupons to my Kroger card from their website (I do this every week when I make my shopping list), I noticed some high value coupons for personal care and cleaning items that I knew I had paper coupons for also, so I decided to check them out while I was there.  I've listed all the deals I found below.  I don't know which inserts the paper coupons were from b/c they had already been cut out and were in my binder.  But, if you have them and can head to Kroger today or tomorrow, you can get hopefully get some of these deals too!  Here's what I ended up finding....

Gilette Fusion razor  $6.99 (I can't remember the exact price but it was NOT more than $7)
-used $4 paper coupon with $3 digital coupon to get it FREE!

Shick Hydro razor  $5.99
-used $2 paper coupon with $4 digital coupon to get it FREE!

*PLUS*

Oral B Stages toothbrush  $1.29 (found in clearance section)
-used $0.50 paper coupon (doubled) with $0.50 digital coupon to get it FREE plus overage!

Tampax Pearl tampons 18 ct  $4.39
-used $2 paper coupon with $2 digital coupon to get it for $0.39!  (you could get the scented 18 count boxes for FREE instead!)

As you can see, I ended up scoring some pretty great deals!!!  Now, on to my totals....

Thrifty Thursdays - Another Friday Edition!

Have you all noticed yet that it's almost impossible for me to keep this blog updated regularly!  :)  I'm sure it has nothing to do with my two kids.....

ANYWAY, here are the totals from my shopping trip yesterday.  I made it to Walgreens and Kroger.  It had been a while since I shopped at Walgreens, and - of course - they were out of pretty much everything I wanted, but I did find the Aquaphor lip balm and used the RR's I got back to buy my daughter's birthday party invitations and two packages of Always pads that I were $.69 after clearance prices and $1 coupons.  (By the way - be on the lookout for upcoming posts on how I am trying to make my almost 2-year old's birthday party as frugal as possible!)

Total value of 4 items at Walgreens: $23.04
Total Spent OOP: $4.69
RR's Remaining: $1

My Kroger trip was decent enough.  I found Balance Bars on clearance for $.50 each and had $1/3 coupons that made them $.16 each.  I also got 8 FREE bags of cat treats for my brother!  But, the best deal I got was a FREE Gilette Proglide razor - on sale for $6.99 and I used the $4 mc from the recent P&G and a $3 kroger digital coupon!

Total Value of 42 items: $129.20
Total Spent OOP: $58.89
Total Savings: $70.31 (55%!)

On a side note, when I went to CVS earlier in the week, I didn't realize that the Kids Oral-B battery powered toothbrushes were part of the ECB deal.  However, my mom told me today that she saw that they were.  Sooooo, I took one of mine back and exchanged it for a Cinderella toothbrush for my 4 year old to put in her Easter basket!  She will be thrilled and it didn't cost me a dime!  I'm going to be on the lookout now for good Easter basket fillers.  If you come across any, let me know!

Emergency Trip to Walgreens!

Yesterday, I had the realization that we only had a total of 4 diapers in the whole house!  I don't know about you, but for us, this constitutes an emergency!!!  The best deal I could find on diapers was at Walgreens, so I loaded up the kids and headed out!

Here's what I got...

Total Value = $76.87
Total Spent Out of Pocket = $12.42
Total Saved = $64.45
Total Register Rewards Remaining = $3

I lucked out finding the V05 on clearance for $0.19 and the nail file on clearance for $0.25!  They ended up being great filler items.  I may have been able to get all of this for a little less out of pocket, but since the girls were with me (and NOT behaving themselves at the register!), I decided to do it all in 2 transactions.

I'm hoping for some good diaper deals soon so I can stock up - obviously there have not been many lately!  I HATE not having a pack in the closet!!!  So...if you run across any great diaper deals, please let me know! :)
