Thrifty Thursday 11/10

We didn't need much this week thanks to a few recent "stock-up" trips, so I went to a some stores that I don't always have time to go to...including the Goodwill store and Ollie's Bargain Outlet.  I know it's not grocery related, but I LOVE to go to the Goodwill to look for books for my kids.  At $0.35 a piece, it's an inexpensive way to treat them!  I found some bargains today...including books by Tommie de Paola and Eric Carle, plus a hardcover Fancy Nancy book!  Ollie's didn't have much except for Betty Crocker fruit snacks for $0.99 a box.  We were out and my husband LOVES fruit snacks, so I bought a few boxes.

My best deal of the day was at Walgreens where I got 2 cans of Clabber Girl baking powder for FREE after coupons!  (Well, I paid $0.03 for tax, but that's about as close to free as you'll get!)  :)

I also went to Kroger for one set of Mega Sale items (Kleenex, Nestle water bottles, Doritos -a sick present for my hubby-, and a carton of half & half) and some veggies, milk and eggs.

And, unfortunately, I was FORCED to go to Walmart for a few non-grocery related items, so while I was there, I picked up a bottle of honey.  :)

Here are my totals for the day...

Total value of all purchases (22 items from 4 stores - not including Goodwill) : $56.53
Total amount spent oop after sales and coupons :  $34.63
Total amount saved : $21.90 or 39%

Impromptu Shopping Trip = HUGE Savings and LOTS of Free Items!

Yesterday, my mom and I decided to take the girls and go out to a few stores and see what kind of deals we could get.  We knew there were coupons in this past weekend's paper that would make for free items at some stores, so we decided to try our luck!  I was surprised at how much we were actually able to get!!!  I had gotten extra papers this week since I knew the coupons were going to be good, so I was able to stock up on several things that we use on a regular basis for FREE!!!  Here's a picture of everything I got:

We decided to go to a new Family Dollar - well, not a new store, but new to us!  I found the L.A. Looks hair gel for $1.75 and had $1 coupons (from this past weekend's paper).  My husband uses this stuff every day.  And they also had 5 ct. packs of Zyrtec on sale for $4.50 with a $1 in-store coupon and I had $2 manufacturer coupons (printed online weeks ago), making them only $1.50 each!

Dollar General had a great deal on the Air Wick Freshmatic air freshners - on sale for $4 and I had $4 coupons, making them FREE!  These will be on sale all week if you can find time to swing by there!

We also made a trip in to Food Lion to get FREE Marcal paper towels (with $1 coupons from this past weekend's paper) and FREE Splenda Essentials (with $3 coupons from this past weekend's paper).  (This sale is now over.)

Kroger has Ivory body wash and Crest toothpaste free this week after coupons from this past weekend's P&G insert.

I also went into Walmart where they have 3-packs of Cascade action packs on sale for $.97 - $1 coupons from this past weekend's P&G insert made them FREE!  Plus, I found Gillette Fusion Proglide packs (with one razor, small body wash, and two other trial sized products) for $4.97.  After the $4 coupon from this weekend's P&G, I got them for $.97 each!

The box of Cherrios and can of Ocean Spray juice were mailbox freebies that I decided to throw in the picture!  :)

All in all, I ended up with 45 items totalling $95.40 in value for only $9.49!  Not bad for a quick morning of shopping!!! :)

Have you all picked up any good freebies this week?  I'd love to hear!

Thrifty Thursdays

I'm actually posting my Thrifty Thursday report ON THURSDAY this week!!!

I had a full day of shopping today and actually did pretty well at a few stores!  Here we go...

My first store was Walmart.  I had several free product coupons that I had been saving up that were going to expire at the end of the month, so I decided to go in and redeem those while trying to snag a few other deals in the process!  Here's what I got...

Total value: $25.24
Total spent oop after coupons: $1.94
Total saved: $23.30 or 92%!

*****DEAL HIGHLIGHT*****

White Cloud Baby Wipes (80 ct) regularly priced at $1.50
-$1 White Cloud Product coupon from June or July All You Magazine
*makes them $.50 each!

Advil "Pocket Packs" 10 ct (found at the register)
-$4/2 coupon from the 5/22 SS insert
*buy (2), makes them FREE plus $.32 in overage!

********************************

The next store I made it to was the Dollar Tree.  I went in for Father's Day cards and bread.  Here's what I ended up with (minus the Father's Day cards).  If you've never bought greeting cards at Dollar Tree, you should glance at them the next time you're in there.  The ones at our store are very high quality and only $.50!

It's unusual to find the large packs of peanut butter crackers there, so I was excited about that!  (I keep these in the diaper bag.  They come in handy when I need to occupy my children's mouths with something other than screaming!!)  :)  Plus, we are planning on having hamburgers next week, so the buns will come in handy.  I'm planning on splitting the packages of rolls and putting them in the freezer to save for future meals.

Total spent: $11.91

Next on the list was Food Lion.  My main objective there was produce and frozen pizza!  (I would have price matched my Food Lion items at Walmart to save a trip, but they don't always have the prices of everything listed in their ad.)  I also ended up buying some discounted ground beef & steak which drove my total up by about $10.

Total value of 8 items: $34.49
Total spent after sales & coupons: $23.28
Total saved: $11.21 or 67%!

After a break for a doctor's appointment, I quickly ran into CVS to redeem (2) FREE Hershey's candy bar coupons that I printed from their website.  I wanted to make sure I got them this week because Hershey's candy was on sale B2G1 for a penny!

Total value: $3.60
Total spent after sale & coupons: $0.04
Total spent: $3.56 or 99%

Last, but not least, I finally made it to Kroger at the end of the day.  There is a new mega sale this week with the most exciting items for me being cheap Juicy Juice and FREE baby wipes (of which they had none - of course.)

Total value of 25 items: $57.39
Total spent after sales & coupons: $39.38
Total saved: $18.01 or 31%

All in all, I was pretty pleased with my day!  Here's the grand total:

Total value of all purchases: $132.63
Total spent after sales & coupons:  $76.55
Total saved: $56.08 or 42%!

How have you done this week on your shopping adventures?  I'd love to hear!

Thrifty Thursdays!

I know, I know...it's Friday, not Thursday....AGAIN!  :)  By the time I get home from shopping on Thursday, fix dinner, and get kids in the bed, I just can't seem to make it to the computer.  (The only reason I'm writing this now is because my wonderful mother is watching my kids while they nap!  Gotta love Grammy!!!)

Anyway, yesterday was a pretty good shopping trip for me!  I went to Walmart, Walgreens, and Kroger.

Now, I know what you're thinking.....WALMART?!  But, I had to go there to get a specific item, so while I was there I picked up a few cheap and/or free things!!  I got FREE dental floss and tomoto paste and boxes of Gain fabric softener sheets for $0.12 each!  Except for the fact that they were out of the cat food and Dial lotion that I wanted, I was pretty happy with that trip!

Total value of 10 items = $20.43
Total spent after coupons = $0.43!  (98% savings!)

Now, on to Walgreens.  I wasn't exactly sure how my trip was going to go there.  I never know what they are still going to have in stock by the time I get there on Thursdays, so I usually write out my "dream transactions" and then have to readjust them once I'm in the store!  My main goal was to get some inexpensive coffee and peanut butter, and I managed to do just that!  I used overage on the Pedia Care along with 2 $1 coupons and a $1 RR to go towards the coffee (protein bars were free after coupons and Easter bag was a filler item - $0.27) and then used the $1 RR I got back from the coffee to go towards the peanut butter!

Total value = $28.83
Total spent oop after sales and coupons = $2.56
Total savings = $26.27 (91%!)

Last, but not least, I went to Kroger.  Now, I didn't have much of a trip planned for Kroger.  In fact, most of the items on my list did not involve coupons at all.  However, as I was loading digital coupons to my Kroger card from their website (I do this every week when I make my shopping list), I noticed some high value coupons for personal care and cleaning items that I knew I had paper coupons for also, so I decided to check them out while I was there.  I've listed all the deals I found below.  I don't know which inserts the paper coupons were from b/c they had already been cut out and were in my binder.  But, if you have them and can head to Kroger today or tomorrow, you can get hopefully get some of these deals too!  Here's what I ended up finding....

Gilette Fusion razor  $6.99 (I can't remember the exact price but it was NOT more than $7)
-used $4 paper coupon with $3 digital coupon to get it FREE!

Shick Hydro razor  $5.99
-used $2 paper coupon with $4 digital coupon to get it FREE!

Tide Stain Release 18ct. packs or 30ish oz liquid  $5.99
-used $3 paper coupon with $3 digital coupon to get it FREE!

Pampers Baby Wipes tub  $2.61
-used $0.50 paper coupon (doubled) with $1 digital coupon to get it for $0.61!

Olay Regenerist Cleanser  $5.26
-used $3 paper coupon with $2 digital coupon to get it for $0.26!
*PLUS*
-used paper coupon good for a "FREE lotion, body wash, or bar soap when you buy ay Olay cleanser or moisturizer" to get a FREE in-shower body lotion!

Oral B Stages toothbrush  $1.29 (found in clearance section)
-used $0.50 paper coupon (doubled) with $0.50 digital coupon to get it FREE plus overage!

Tampax Pearl tampons 18 ct  $4.39
-used $2 paper coupon with $2 digital coupon to get it for $0.39!  (you could get the scented 18 count boxes for FREE instead!)

As you can see, I ended up scoring some pretty great deals!!!  Now, on to my totals....

Total value of 43 items = $126.77
Total spent out of pocket after sales and coupons = $56.49
Total amount saved = $70.28 (or 56%!)

Not bad for a trip planned using only 3 coupons!  :)

Totals for the whole day...

Total number of items purchased = 61
Total value of all items = $176.25
Total spent out of pocket after sales & coupons = $59.48
Total savings = $116.77 or 66%

Thrifty Thursdays!

I have two confessions to make this week.

Number one - I do not feel like today's grocery shopping trip was very thrifty.  I have been a little behind in cutting out my coupons and didn't spend as much time as I usually do getting my shopping list ready this week, so I felt like I probably could have done a little better.

Number two - I actually shopped at Walmart today.  I know, I know!  I try to stay away from Walmart at all costs, but, I had to go there to get a couple of Christmas gifts and figured that while I was there, I would pick up some of the things on my grocery list that weren't on sale at Kroger this week.  (The "needs" part of my shopping list was longer than usual this week b/c we have a Christmas party to go to on Saturday that I have to cook for.)

ANYWAY....that said, even though I did save some money, it was still one of those days when I came home from the store thinking..."How did I spend that much money on what little I bought?!"  It just goes to show you what a difference buying things on sale makes!  Here are the totals....

Total value of all items bought at Kroger and Walmart: $114.73
Total amount spent out of pocket after sales and coupons: $67.60
Total amount saved: $47.13 or 41%

Did any of you get any great deals at Kroger this week?  If so, I'd love to hear about them!  Just leave a comment below!
